About Pune –

Pune, also called ‘Poona’, is the education hub of India which is situated in the state of Maharashtra, India. Pune is considered to be the 8th largest metropolitan economy of India. It has the sixth highest per capita income in the country. There are different sectors including Information Technology, Manufacturing and Education that play an important role in boosting the local economy of Pune city.

Thousands of students, workers, migrants called Pune their home because of the educations, IT sector and job market which has been booming since the last decade. Infrastructure –

Pune’s public transport is basically reliant on the bus system which is managed by PMPML. They house around 500+ buses which run on 250+ routes in both Pune and PCMC. Apart from buses, Pune is connected with railways through Western Railways and also have local railways for inter-city travel. Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is the civic body responsible for local government. It comprises two branches, the executive branch headed by the Municipal Commissioner, an IAS officer appointed by the Government of Maharashtra, and an elected deliberative branch, the general body, headed by the Mayor of Pune. Municipal elections are held every five years to elect councillors, commonly known as “corporators”, who form the general body. The Standing Committee and the 15 ward committees are in charge of financial approvals. PMC was ranked 8th out of 21 Indian cities for best governance and administrative practices in 2014. It scored 3.5 out of 10 compared to the national average of 3.3

The Taluka lies at the foothills of eastern side of the Sahyadri Mountain range, and towards the west side of Pune city. This taluka is geographically divided in two parts due to the patterns of rainfall. The northern region gets far less rainfall than mountainous southern side of the taluka. Agriculture is the main occupation of this region.

The most commonly grown crop is millet and vegetables like Tomato, Potato, Grapes and Banana are commonly grown too. In northern region, wheat, Jawari (also known as Durra) and Bajari (Pearl millet) are most commonly grown crops whereas in southern region rice is grown. National Highway no. 50 linking the Pune and Nasik and a State Highway linking cities of Shirur to Bhimashankar via Manchar goes through the taluka. At present there are no rail links in the taluka.

  1. Baramati

Baramati and surrounding areas mostly depend on agriculture as the main source of income. Apart from agriculture, Baramati is home to a lot of industries which range from Steel Processing to Winemaking. Baramati is home to the three-wheeler plant of the Italian company Piaggio. The construction of a two-wheeler plant is completed, 150,000 Vespa scooters are produced annually with the initial investment.

Industries in Baramati vary from textile to dairy and food products. Similarly, there are many foreign companies in Baramati like Piaggio, Ferrero and Dynamix Dairy, Baramati. The oldest plant in Baramati MIDC is the Kalyani Steels. Likewise, recent additions to the list of industries are Bharat Forge, Ferrero Rocher, and Bauli India.

Baramati MIDC has a Baramati Hi-Tech Textile Park Ltd., set up over a sprawling 60-acres of land which houses small domestic garment manufacturers, consisting of a comprehensive group of textile oriented units specializing in functions such as garment-making, Apparel Printing & Packaging, Home Furnishing, Embroidery and Technical textile within the Textile Park. It also has a series of smaller units available as ancillary support units.

Baramati has an airstrip near MIDC.

  1. Bhor

The town of Bhor, once the capital of the princely state, is located about 51 kilometres south of Pune, adjacent to Bhatghar Dam. It is situated among the eastern slopes of the Western Ghats, the state covered an area of 2,396 square kilometers. Bhor is home to a large number of educational institutes such as, primary schools, high schools as well as colleges. An increasing number of educational institutes providing technological education are being founded near the town. Bhor has also been a shooting location for a number of regional movies and tv shows.

  1. Daund

The town of Daund is the only major urban area in this predominantly rural area. Daund railway station is a major railway junction. All southern railways are connected to this route and also divided the Nagar railway to north Indian railway like Delhi, Solapur division, Daund junction and then joined to the Pune district junction. Daund has the most agricultural production of sugarcane. The riverbank farmers mostly plant sugarcane as their seasonal crop. The climate of Daund is generally hot and dry, and the area receives scant rainfall. Lakes like Warvand, Kasurdi and Motoba fall in this Taluka.

Daund lies very close to the seismically active zone around Koyna Dam, about 130 km (81 mi) southeast of the town, and has been rated in Zone 3 (on a scale of 2 to 5, with 5 being the most prone to earthquakes) by the India Meteorological Department.

Primary crops include wheat, sugar cane, oranges and sweet limes. Daund has a large working class population, and the primary occupation is farming. MIDC provides employment for the people. Daund is currently being developed as a hub for Pharmaceutical Industries. Pharmaceutical majors such as Cipla, Emcure, Dia Ichi already have their base here.

  1. Haveli

The cities of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad are at the center of and entirely surrounded by this taluka. From being a rural area surrounding the city of Pune, major parts of the taluka have become suburban in nature during the span of the last fifty years. Half of the area of this taluka is village area and half is in city area.

All of the major activites happen in Haveli. Majority of the companies, institutions, banks, extra curriculars and major important functions all have their head offices and offices in Pune city.

  1. Indapur

Indapur is known for Jahagir of Shivaji Maharaj’s father and grandfather. Shivaji Maharaj’s grandfather Malojiraje died in battle in Indapur. It has National Highway 65 connecting the south and west region of India. Indapur is a quiet hot place as it receives scanty rainfall. Indapur city is located to the nearest Bhima River, Ujani Dam & Baramati-the hometown of Indian politician Mr. Sharad Pawar.

  1. Junnar

Junnar has history dating back to the first millennium. The nearby fort of Shivneri was the birthplace of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of the Maratha Empire. Junnar was declared the first tourism taluka in Pune district by the government of Maharashtra. Junnar has been an important trading and political center for the last two millennia.

The town is on the trade route that links the ports of western India or more specifically of Konkan with Deccan interiors. The Junnar area has been historically famed for its teak forest. Junnar area is dotted with historic places including Shivneri, the birthplace of the great Hindu king Shivaji Maharaj Phalgun Vadya Trutiya Yugabdh 4731 (19 February 1630), the cave temple of Lenyadri ; Kulswami khandoba temple wadaj; One of the famous temple of Lord Ganesha Ozar and the walled town of Junnar itself.

Agritourism or agrotourism, as it is defined most broadly, involves any agriculturally based operation or activity that brings visitors to a farm or ranch. Few popular such venture, “Parashar Agri & Village Tourism centre”, is situated in village Rajuri of Junnar Taluka, and other Rashmigreenland Agri Tourism Center, located at foothills of Leynadri temple, Golegaon, Junnar.

  1. Khed

Khed is a taluka in the Khed subdivision of Pune district of the state of Maharashtra in India. Khed is the headquarter of the taluka. The taluka is known for being the birthplace of Santaji Jagnade.The name of city is rajgurunagar on the name of Shaheed Shivram Hari Rajguru.

Bharat Forge’s Special Economic Zone (SEZ) named as Khed City is the biggest SEZ in Pune spread over 1,000 hectares (4200Acre) of notified land in Khed taluka.

MARS International India Pvt.Ltd., the global manufacturer of chocolates, snack foods and pet foods acquired a large parcel of land in KhedCity (Bharat Forge’s SEZ). The Company will set up its first manufacturing facility in India here with investment of Rs 1,005 crore (over $160 million).

9.Maval

Maval is is towards the west of Pune area which is mainly hilly terrain and part of the Sahyadri range/western ghats. Many rivers originate from this region and travel from west to east. Broadly speaking, Maval is subdivided into 12 subregions. Each subregion is mostly identified by the name of a river. Maval comes under the west region of Pune. The Locality has many tourist destinations nearby which make this place a prominent location for investment in property or second home.

10.Mulshi

Mulshi taluka is a taluka in Maval subdivision of Pune district of state of Maharashtra in India. Mulshi consisted of Pune Metropolitan Region & Villages. Mulshi is a popular eco-tourism destination in the city. Known for its pristine lake, Mulshi is one of the best places to visit near Pune, especially during monsoon.   1. Pune City

Pune is the second largest city in the Indian State of Maharashtra after Mumbai, and the eighth most populous city in India, with an estimated population of 7.4 million as of 2020.[22] It has been ranked as “the most livable city in India” several times. Along with its extended city limits Pimpri Chinchwad and the three cantonment towns of Pune, Khadki and Dehu Road, Pune forms the urban core of the eponymous Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR).

This taluka is the administrative block for the City of Pune as defined by the State of Maharashtra. The local governance of the City of Pune is governed by the Pune Municipal Corporation, while the taluka officials are appointed by the State Govt. The Pune municipal corporation cannot grow beyond the boundaries of the Pune City taluka.

The establishment of Hindustan Antibiotics in 1954 marked the beginning of industrial development in the Hadapsar, Bhosari, and Pimpri areas. MIDC provided the necessary infrastructure for new businesses to set up operations.[69] In the 1970s, several engineering companies were set up in the city, allowing it to vie with Chennai. In the 1990s, Pune began to attract foreign capital, particularly in the information technology and engineering industries. IT parks were established in Aundh, Viman Nagar, Hinjewadi , Wagholi, Kharadi and Balewadi-Baner region. As a result, the city saw a huge influx of people to the city due to opportunities offered by the manufacturing and lately the software industries.

  1. Purandar

Purandar (Saswad) fort is known as the birthplace of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s son Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. The taluka is known by the name of Purandar fort. The hundred-square-mile plateau has a literary heritage from ancient times. Apart from historic importance, Purandar has been decided to be the location for International Airport which is planned to be constructed in the coming future which will open new doors in all sectors of society.

  1. Shirur

Shirur City is located on east boundary of the Pune district on the banks of Ghod River. There are 115 villages and 3 towns in Shirur Taluka. Many international companies have their plant in Shirur. Shirur Taluka’s MIDC is one of the largest industrial region in Asian Continent. Industrial area is developing here rapidly day by day. Many popular Manufacturing companies are established here.

The location, infrastructure & faster connectivity to major cities helped to have three popular MIDC establishments. Karegaon, Sanaswadi and Ranjangaon. The company has its own CSR department Srinivasan Services Trust (SST) which works in 24 gram panchayats include 147 villages in Shirur block on education, health, water, infrastructure, environment and infrastructure areas. It has benefited 6658 families in the Shirur block.

Shirur is influenced by the local steppe climate. There is not much rainfall in Shirur all year long. According to Köppen and Geiger, this climate is classified as BSh. In Shirur, the average annual temperature is 25.4 °C. In a year, the average rainfall is 498 mm.

  1. Velhe

This area receives Heavy Rainfall. This is to the western side of Pune. This is the hilly region of Pune, with one of the biggest of mountain ranges in Maharashtra  i.e. Sahyadri. Most of the area is covered with Forest. Sag, Teak, Oak, Mango, are the trees found in the forest. Rabbit, Deer, Wolf, Fox, Tiger and Leopards are the wild animals found in this areas. Peacock, Bulbul, Parrot are some of the birds found in this area. Rice is grown in this region on a large scale. The forts over here like Rajgad and Torana are very famous.

IT hub –

Industrial Zone –

In 1954, when Hindustan Antibiotics (HA) Ltd. company started in Pimpri Chinchwad area, this was the beginning of industrialization of Pune. The MIDC (Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation) has developed Industrial zones in various parts of Pune. It includes large industrial clusters in the areas like Talegaon, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Bhosari, Ranjangaon, Chakan etc. Pimpri-Chinchwad alone has over 4,000 manufacturing units and 400 multinational companies. Pune is also the largest hub in India for German companies. In the MIDC industrial estates land, fuels, electricity, water and select raw materials are provided at subsidized rates to priority sector productions / companies.

According to Indo-German Chamber of Commerce, about 225 German companies have their set up in Pune. Being located on the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) Pune has propelled the industrial activity to greater heights.

Suitable transport and communication facilities are also made available and other conditions are being made favorable for efficient and qualitative industrial productions. Entrepreneurs, laborers and suppliers are now able to identify their ‘interest areas’ easily and can thus have easy access to industrialists. The emphasis here is on tiny, small and medium scale industries as they are high priority undertakings according to the government’s policy. Pune has major AMPC markets which are responsible for majority of supply of essential products to the consumers. Farmers from all over Pune, and also from the neighboring districts come to Pune to sell. Pune markets are well known for the variety and cheap prices. Education

Pune is well known as education hub of India. Students from all over India and all over world come to Pune for their education. Due to its wide range of educational institutions it has been called the “Oxford of the East”. Right from the primary education right till Masters/Phd, every course is available in Pune. Pune has a setup of well known good educational institutions which is preferred by students.

From undergraduate to postgraduate colleges; from research institutes to interdisciplinary centers; from language training to vocational courses – there is no dearth of educational options in the city. Pune is home to some of the leading institutions in the country that offer a whole gamut of academic options between them.  Whether you want to pursue engineering or film and television studies, whether its astrophysics you want to learn or Japanese – Pune’s topnotch educational institutions will not disappoint.

One of the unique things about higher education in India, true even more so for Pune, is its affordability. Students in Pune don’t have to worry about spending pots of money or taking out huge educational loans for their academic pursuits.   1. University of Pune: Established in 1949, the varsity is home to 46 academic departments and 811 affiliated colleges. Prominent affiliated colleges include the College of Engineering, Pune, established in 1854.
  2. Fergusson College: Founded in 1885 by the Deccan Education Society, FC was the first privately governed college in India.
  3. Bharati Vidyapeeth University: Established in 1996, this university offers more than 250 courses and covers all major streams of education.
  4. Symbiosis International University: A private co-educational, multi-institutional university with 19 academic institutions spread over 9 campuses in Pune, Nashik, and Bengaluru.
  5. Indian Institute for Science Education and Research: Established in 2006 to promote excellence in research and teaching in the basic sciences.
  6. National Defense Academy: Located at Khadakwasla, just outside the city, the NDA is a joint services institution for training young cadets as future officers of the Defense Services.
  7. Armed Forces Medical College: Set up in 1948 in the immediate post-world war period, AFMC is responsible for training of medical undergraduates and post-graduates, dental postgraduates, nursing cadets and paramedical staff.
  8. Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics: An autonomous institution set up by the University Grants Commission to promote nucleation and growth of active groups in astronomy and astrophysics in Indian universities.
  9. Film and Television Institute of India:An autonomous institute set up under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of the Government of India in 1960, FTII is India’s premier film and television institute offering post-graduate courses in film direction, editing, cinematography and audiography, acting, art direction, computer graphics and animation, feature film scriptwriting, etc.
  10. Centre for Development of Advanced Computing: C-DAC operates India’s most powerful supercomputers PARAM and Padma.

 

Several education reforms took place in the year 2011 in Pune. The fees of private schools in Pune were reduced after protests from guardians and NGOs. The school fees were also regulated under the Maharashtra Educational institutions (Regulation of Collection of Fee) Act. This means that a greater number of children can now receive education from schools in Pune.

Emphasis was given to school education this year and the syllabus were revamped in order to introduce more contemporary subjects of study that would help at the higher education level.

Major Locations

Pune can be categorized into different quadrants and each of these quadrants serves a unique purpose. All of these quadrants have their own significance and they do play an important part in the various ways.

Below are the quadrants and their importance –

  1. Hadapsar & Magarpatta

There was a time when these places were a isolated part of the district. Not many people used to live here. And whoever used to live here had to travel a lot to the main Pune city area for all of their needs. There were not many roads which made Hadapsar not an ideal place to live or do business.

As time passed, urbanization started in Pune and the boundaries to live and do business shifted drastically past the Hadapsar area. Now people were excited to search for a good land to buy in this area and setup their livelihood. Hadapsar came to limelight because of Magarpatta City which was the most amazing residential place to live in Pune. Everyone inside are around Pune came to know about this residential complex and favored to buy their home here. And soon came the corporate companies who opened their offices here because of abundance of place at a tad bit less price than the market value. Roads were made which made it easily to travel to all the places in Hadapsar.

  1. Pune Central area

The Pune Central area mainly consists of the exact centre of Pune. It consists of the Peth area, FC Road, JM Road and Camp area. Majority of the business in Pune were started in Peth area which dates back to 100+ years ago and some of them are still presently running and serving the people of Pune. Even though Pune has developed a lot over the last few years, you can still experience the original Pune by visiting some of the well known landmarks like Mahatma Phule Bhaji Mandai, Vishrambaug Vaada, Dagduseth Halwai Ganpati, Pataleshwar Temple, Sambhaji Udyaan, SP College& FC College, Bhori Ali and Budhwar Peth which is well known to buy anything that you want at a really cheap price etc.

Even though there are new residential projects which are made and planned to be made in the near future, the people of Pune still try to maintain the presence of the old Pune that not all of know.

  1. Kothrud 

Kothrud was known as Kothrud Baug previously.  History of Kothrud dates back to at least era of Peshawas because the two famous temples in Kothrud, Dashbhuja and Mritunjayeshwar were built by Peshawas. After the completion of Mhatre Bridge in 1983, Kothrud came closer to Pune City.  Kothrud was covered with Green Jungle once but has now become a concrete jungle.

Kothrud is expanding very fast and its population is also increasing rapidly.  Being one of the safest place in Pune City with good amenities and good climate, it is one of the most favorite destinations of Puneites and therefore has noticed a very sharp rise in real estate prices, mainly in the last seven to eight years.

Kothrud is more than 90% developed.  Karishma Society and Woodlands are the landmark projects here. Kothrud area spans mainly from Paud Phata to Chandni Chowk and from Paud Phata to Dahanukar Colony.

 

  1. Bibwewadi

On the Satara road, the left hand side of Swargate is considered to be the extended boundary of the Bibwewadi area directly to the back of Shankar Maharaj Math. K. K. Turning from the market to the market yard again, all the interior is considered to be the Bibwewadi area. It is important to mention the market yard which was set up around 1977 to know the reasons for the development of the area.

The Gultekdi Market Yard created bungalows and societies of intensive merchant congregations in the area. In the past, the availability of cheap land increased the attractiveness of the builders and the upper middle class settled in the area. The Vishwakarma Institute’s educational complex introduced a new identity to the area. Due to the government reservations on many lands here, many neglected settlements which put stress on the cities easily migrated to these lands.

  1. Viman nagar

Viman Nagar is an affluent neighborhood in the eastern corridor of Pune, around half a kilometer from the military air base which also serves as Pune Airport. The name of the neighborhood has been derived from this nearby air base. Pre-independence, this area was known as Dunkirk Lines. It has one of the highest rates of real estate in the entire state due to easy accessibility to work and leisure as well as good educational institutions, making it a coveted and highly sought after residential destination.

It is also considered to be one of the posh localities of Pune with colonies such as Mhada Colony, Rajiv Nagar South, Kargil Vijay Nagar, Sanjay Park in the west. It is surrounded by Pune Airport in the north and Tata Nagar in the east. A lot of hotels, pubs and many other well known places have their presence in Viman nagar which makes it everyone’s favorite location to spend some quality time.

  1. Aundh, Baner & Pimple Saudagar

Aundh, Baner & Pimple Saudagar is an affluent suburb in the north-west of Pune in Maharashtra, India. Since the mid-1990s, these places have developed significantly as a residential area with proximity to the University of Pune and the Software Technology Parks of India complex at Hinjewadi .

The residential real-estate prices in these areas have seen a huge uptrend which has been largely driven by the demand coming from IT professionals as well as migrants from various parts of the country. Its proximity to the Mumbai-Pune express way and connectivity to Shivaji Nagar, makes it preferable to reside there than other parts of the city. They have also become famous for various modern and innovative places of recreation and indulgence, such as the presence of a gourmet food store – Fine foods, gymnasiums – Gold’s Gym, Air, and a 3 star hotel – Seasons. These places are a popular hangout destination for the cosmopolitan crowd of Pune. These areas are also a major hub for business as there are many companies, high end showrooms, high end health clubs and recreational outlets.

The Westend Mall near Parihar Chowk is developed in 2016 by SumanShilp on a 67,500 sq.m. (17 acres) plot with 250 Key 5 Star Hilton Hotel, Shoppers Stop, and Cinepolis 8 Screen Multiplex with Pune’s first IMAX theatre, one of the major malls in Pune. Road from Parihar Chowk to Bremen Chowk is currently been redesigned as a part of Smart City Pune project. The layout of road will mainly address traffic problem during peak hours and parking problems. Moreover, the layout of these place have been well designed space for pedestrians, a cycling track and sitting arrangements around trees, wi-fi, vertical garden etc. and has met the international standards.

  1. Pimpri-Chinchwad

Pimpri-Chinchwad is the extended city limits of Pune, and part of the Pune Metropolitan Region. However, it was separated from PMC with its own taluka and Municipal Corporation. The modern area developed from what were rural suburbs of Pune as a result of rapid industrialization that began within a decade after Indian independence in 1947. The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation was once popularly famous for being Asia’s richest municipal corporation. It is home to a vast variety of industrial establishments and is well known for its automotive and manufacturing industry which call up Pune as the automobile manufacturing hub of India.

Pimpri Chinchwad is a famous industrial and automotive hub of Pune. The growth in the industrial sector drives residential development in the area primarily in the mid-income segment.

  1. Chakan

Chakan is a census town in India, in Pune district of the Indian state of Maharashtra. While agriculture remains an important factor, the town’s industrial development is quickly urbanizing the area. Chakan is about 30 kilometres (19 mi) from the centre of Pune, on NH 50 between Pune and Nashik cities. It is also on the roads that connect the Mumbai-Pune Highway to the Pune-Nashik Highway, and to the Pune-Ahmednagar-Aurangabad Highway.

Historically, Chakan has been a wholesale agricultural produce trading hub. Its agricultural market was a major onion trading center.

Chakan is now home to a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) promoted by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). It has since evolved into a major automobile hub.[5] It hosts automobile production plants for the Volkswagen Group, Daimler-Benz, Mahindra & Mahindra, Jaguar Land Rover and Bajaj Auto, General Electric, Hyundai. Over 750 large and small industries, including a number of automobile component manufacturers, are based in the area.

  1. Hinjewadi

Hinjewadi is located in the South-Western part of the city of Pune, India. Previously Hinjewadi was a village until the construction of the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park. Now it is one of the epicenters of IT industry in Pune. To improve the overall planning and development of Hinjewadi area, it was brought under the jurisdiction of PMRDA. The state government in the past rejected the demands to bring the area under the jurisdiction of either PMC or PCMC as the area needed special attention park comprises three phases with further phases planned. Hinjewadi Industries Association (HIA) was laid out to provide a joint forum to all stakeholders based out of Hinjewadi and nearby places.

Hinjewadi is a proposed hub for integrated townships in Pimpri-Chinchwad. The new Special Township Policy Act of the Maharashtra government has laid down an integrated approach to the development of townships to de-congest Pune Municipal Corporation areas and encourage new settlements in its periphery though higher FSI (floor space index) than what is normally allowed in the municipal limits.

  1. Wagholi

Wagholi is a suburban area in Pune district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Wagholi is historically kenned as the habitation of Maratha Warrior Sardar Pilajirao Changojirao Jadhav. Wagholi will soon get connected with Metro railway as per the recent plan of the regime of Maharashtra. Wagholi is additionally kenned for furniture malls and a market for silk sarees. This area comes under Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR).

Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is the Planning and Development Authority for the sustainable growth of the Pune Metropolitan Region. PMRDA aims to create the future of living and doing business with very high livability index and to achieve world’s highest livability index for its citizens. There are different plans rolled out for development of Wagholi.

  1. Saswad

Saswad is a city and a municipal council in the Pune district of the Indian state of Maharashtra. Saswad is situated on the banks of Karha River. Saswad is just about 31 km from Pune Station. Saswad is a place with a long history. It lay on the ancient trade route connecting the coastal Konkan ports to the Deccan interiors. Its site on a trade route made it a center for Buddhist monasteries. The annual Alandi to Pandharpur Wari of Dnyaneshwar Palkhi stops in the town. Later it was known as the town at the foot of historic Purandar fort.

Given its proximity to Pune, Saswad may become part of Pune metropolitan area. The town is just 25 km away from Pune city and 20 minutes from Hadapsar. The Eotte (Royal Purandar) city that is under construction is 10 km from Saswad and Magarpatta City, Amanora Tower City are 25 km from Saswad. Due to improvement in transport, many Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation industrial parks are around Pune (Pimpri-Chinchwad MIDC, Chakan MIDC, Ranjangaon MIDC and Jejuri MIDC) are close enough for commuting from Saswad.

Saswad offers many apartments and shopping complexes. Saswad has educational institutions that cater for the needs of different ages and sections of the society. Eight schools are run by the municipal council, many privately run primary and secondary schools that offering instruction in Marathi and English, and Christian mission run schools offering instruction in English. The town hosts colleges offering degree level courses. An ITI offers vocational training.

  1. Baramati

Baramati is a city and a municipal council in Pune district in the state of Maharashtra, India. It is also the home town of the famous Marathi Poet Kavivarya Moropant and former Chief Minister of Maharashtra and former Union Minister, Sharad Pawar (NCP founder and chief). Baramati and surrounding areas mostly depend on agriculture as the main source of income. The land in the region is moderately irrigated because of the Nira Left Canal irrigation from the Veer Dam. Nira River and Karha River also provide direct irrigation water to the farms.

Apart from agriculture, Baramati is home to a lot of industries which range from Steel Processing to Winemaking. Baramati is home to the three-wheeler plant of the Italian company Piaggio. The construction of a two-wheeler plant is completed, 150,000 Vespa scooters are produced annually with the initial investment.

Industries in Baramati vary from textile to dairy and food products. Similarly, there are many foreign companies in Baramati like Piaggio, Ferrero and Dynamix Dairy, Baramati. The oldest plant in Baramati MIDC is the Kalyani Steels. Likewise, recent additions to the list of industries are Bharat Forge, Ferrero Rocher and Bauli India.

Baramati MIDC has a Baramati Hi-Tech Textile Park Ltd., set up over a sprawling 60-acre of land which houses small domestic garment manufacturers, consisting of a comprehensive group of textile oriented units specializing in functions such as garment-making, Apparel Printing & Packaging, Home Furnishing, Embroidery and Technical textile within the Textile Park. It also has a series of smaller units available as ancillary support units. Baramati has an airstrip near MIDC.
