With the mobile option, you can now bring your business to your customers’ doorsteps! This is a great way to make money especially if you can do it properly. The Mobile Option
One of the greatest investments that you can try is the auto repair business. It’s quite common for businesses to stay in one place only. If you want some change, you can try the mobile auto repair business. As the word suggests, your business will not be confined in one place. In fact, you can travel from one place to another offering auto repair. Leasing or owning a building for the place of business can be heavy on the pocket and so if you opt for a mobile auto repair service, you can save a lot of money.
You can have the main business office at home. Having a home shop will allow you to save lots of money. By creating your own business plan, you can now have a detailed guide on how to start your new business. Choose a name for the business and also a logo for easy recognition. Make sure that you get business cards, letterheads, and envelopes that also have your business name and logo so that you can advertise your business in all your communications. You will also need to start making a list of potential customers – you can include local businesses that have vehicles as well as the local residents who own cars.Similar ArticlesHow to Start an Auto Consulting BusinessHow to Start a Used Automotive Parts Recycling Business
Starting a Mobile Auto Repair Business – Marketing Strategies
Distribute flyers and business cards in high traffic areas to advertise the business. These marketing tools should e concise and clear so that the locals will know about your new business. Distribute communication letters to those who are included in your list. This is a great way to establish a good relationship with your customers. Next step is to purchase your inventory. You will need auto repair equipment and supplies so you have to get them from reputable manufacturers or suppliers. You can use the internet to find a suitable supplier that offers the best prices and deals. You will have to ensure that you have the necessary licenses to avoid problems. Illegal businesses can lead to imprisonment and paying of hefty fines.
You will need a huge vehicle for the mobile auto repair business. A small truck may be able to meet your needs. You also need to hire a driver and some extra hands to help you out. You can travel nearby cities and towns to offer your services. It would also be ideal to have a business website so that other people from nearby places can make bookings for home services. Good luck with your new business. Christopher Carnes said on November 18, 2010Hi. I am a student in the automotive program at my local trade school. I’m close to the end of my program with only one semester left. I was thinking of making up some business cards and trying this mobile thing out. I have no prior auto experience other than working on my own vehicles and what I’ve learned. Is this a good idea? Would I need to purchase a license right away? What should I know before attempting this? Please help.doug said on December 5, 2010I have a mobile truck/equipment welding and repair buisness in CT.. Just need your technician skills, service van or truck, master tools, and parts available. And you are off and running. Business skills will also help a lot.Dave said on January 10, 2011I have a mobile repair welding and maintenance business in CT.. I live in Laurel, Maryland but will be serving places to include, Bowie,Beltsville,Baltimore areas. Is there any mobile business license required for such state? I will appreciate all the hints and tips for a good and sustainable business start. Lets share ideas. Thanks for reading. ClemAuto Repair Express beginner adviser said on March 16, 2011To all of the “s” regarding “state license”:
If your state requires a automotive repair shop to be registered with the state, then all mobile repair biz’s will be required to the same. I live in NY and the way I found out: went to NY state DMV website and found the application for new repair shop registration. Deep in the form is a section for mobile auto repair. Hope this helps someone.Emmanuel said on October 24, 2011I am a ghanian Mechanical Engineering graduate. Jason Treadway said on December 30, 2012I operate a mobile auto repair business in the state of Wisconsin, the decision to go mobile was the best idea my wife and I could make with keeping up with the economy and general prices, also keeping the customers money in there pockets. In Wisconsin the only licenses that are needed are a registered business name, a Federal tax ID#, a state tax ID#, and a re-sellers permit which relatively easy to obtain not to mention the money that is save business wise when it comes to purchasing parts and fluids, also you will need a portable computer (laptop), and a cell phone, I use a smartphone simply for the internet connection, also needed are a few commercial accounts at the parts store, bumper to bumper is a very reliable supplier, and lastly have access to an online auto repair account that provides step by step instructions for repairing because no two vehicles are the same. This is a great choice for anyone who desires to work for them self so good luck.Francisco João said on March 28, 2013I would like to establish a Mobile Auto Repair! Any help with laws and licenses or with doing business I would really appreciate any help. I’m partly disabled and can’t do body and paint full time like I have for 30 years, but I and some friends can do it part time even if its only 1 or 2 little jobs a week just to feel like a human being again and not a bum. thanks for any helpJason said on March 30, 2013I have started this venue roughly 13 years ago. Very successful, if i might add? Here is what i find works for me.
Do Not take anything that you are unfamiliar with as a job. Always be honest! Keep your prices low. Stay away from getting your name out there to fast. Word of mouth in your local neighborhood is key. Business cards, flashy logos, letterheads, and only does damage to the personal touch of the idea.
Keep it on a Personal level folks!!!
As for legal aspects. When i started with 1 service truck, it was simple to get around the (Big-Wigs) Hint Hint!
Now i have just shy of 20 service trucks, 12 service trailers, 25 loaner vehicles, and completely debit free, along with still running the business out of the house.
Basically, have car insurance, stay off major highways, and don’t advertise commercially, Advertise Personally!!! Get the Drift? Good Luck Friends.
knighthawk said on April 24, 2013In regards to license each state is different. In Michigan you need to be state certified in the repairs you are doing, you also need certain insurance policies. Best thing to do is contact a lawyer in your area to find out what you need
