Basically, when we heard cattle business the first thing that comes out to our mind is the ranch with bunches of cows that produce a lot of meats and milks. Many of us think that this business requires a lot of dirty works in taking care of the farm and consumes more of your time just to feed, tend and brush the cows and calves. On the contrary, we wonder how these cattlemen survived their chosen venture which in reality this business requires a big capital, a lot of expertise, and a lot of efforts (realizing the fact that the business has no day-offs and holidays). Furthermore, we will give you the pointers on how to make money in the cattle business.
Starting up Your Cattle Business
First, develop a Cattle Business Plan. In planning you need to consider first on which sector of beef industry you want to venture in. This will help you to set-up your goal and at the same time it will be easier for you list up your basic needs in preparing your tools and equipments that are necessary on your chosen sector. There are six beef industries where you can choose to operate, namely: Purebred Producer or “Seedstock”, Commercial Cow/Calf Producer, Stocker Cattle Producer, Preconditioner or Backgrounder, Feedlot, and Meat Packer. On the said six sectors, if you are just a starter it is important for you to focus on one field of specialization so you can easily concentrate on your resources.
After you have chosen your preferred specialization, you need now to prepare your facilities and equipments. Remember that you should be familiar of the market where you can get your first set of cows and calves; you need to use all the options that you know so you will be getting good breeds in raising your cattle business. In preparing the barn, you need to make sure that you have all the tools and if you can afford to buy tractors and stock trailers it would be great to make the work easier.
Once you are done on preparing your farm, the next thing is to look up your buyers. Advertising your business will enhance the potential of receiving more profits other than looking for private buyers. Let the market know that you are selling your products. Promoting your business will yield more income. And lastly, continue to learn more about your business, gather all the updated information about the industry and do more research about new breeding methods. All of these simple guidelines will surely help you to boom on your Cattle Business.
