Is that a leaf blower I hear in the background?

Is that a leaf blower I hear in the background?

Working from home today I planned on beginning the morning
catching up on my blog posts.  I had
topics, notes and research and was ready to write.  Then the leaf blowers started. I switched
gears to some items that require less concentration.  When the phone rang I was glad I picked up a
wireless extension so I could move around the house to find the spot where the
noise was least noticeable.

Three hours later the landscaping crews seem to have moved
on to another neighborhood.  When I launched
into the brave new world of self employment I was surprised to learn that lawns
need to be cleared professionally practically every day.  Some people who work from home told me that
some days they just close the door and turn on the air conditioner.

I have always liked the change of seasons.  I don’t mind the winter and the cold, snow
shovels are pretty quiet.  But it’s the
first day of spring and even if the thermometer is not cooperating around here
the landscape crews are out.

Leaf blowers have generated controversy throughout the US
for their noise levels, emissions and dust residue.  While there are differing opinions about leaf
blower impact on the environment a growing number of counties and local
governments have enacted legislation to limit their use.  I live a town with laws defining hours for all
leaf blower use to limit noise within a county that last year set emissions
standards for contractors.  I can’t tell
if it’s quieter this year.

I read a column by a writer who recommended heavy duty
headphones.  That would make it hard for
me to hear the ringing phone when a client calls.  I could install flashing lights for the phone
or invest in a headphone system that works with the phone.

Today I don’t have a recommendation or solution or answer.  Like the employee who needs to be listened
to, I just needed to talk, or in my case write.

What Does the Fortune 500 Know?

What Does the Fortune 500 Know?

A few days ago, my son asked me for some help with an assignment that required a parent’s involvement. Sometimes I derive great joy from reading the material that’s handed out to my kids; it gives me a glimpse into a world that I rarely get to see (except when I used to sub). So I was intrigued when I was reading about “cooperative group work” and found discovered the “Fortune 500 List of Desirable Skills.” They are ranked in order with corresponding rankings for 1976. Here they are with today’s ranking listed first and the ranking for 1976 in parentheses:
Teamwork, 1 (10)
Problem Solving, 2 (12)
Interpersonal Skills, 3 (13)
Oral Communications, 4 (4)
Listening Skills, 5 (5)
Personal/Career Development, 6 (6)
Creative Thinking, 7 (7)
Leadership, 8 (8)
Goal Setting/Motivation, 9 (9)
Writing Skills, 10 (1)
Organizational Effectiveness, 12 (2)
Reading Skills, 13 (3)
As a writer, I’m sort of stunned that writing is number 10. Actually, I must have been really disappointed and disbelieving even, because the first time I typed in the numbers I transposed them so that writing came in at number 1. So teamwork is the big winner and I suppose that one of the qualities my son’s teacher is trying to teach. Do we take what we learn in school and apply it to our workplaces? I think so. What about the team you don’t get to choose, however? Do you put in your all for those types of groups as well? You’d better, and that’s probably the biggest lesson of all. Working with people we wouldn’t necessarily select if given the choice can teach us so much in the long run.
Indeed, you don’t have to like the people you work with, but I think you do need to respect them and their roles in the company. It’s takes some growing up to get to that point, but it’s also a really good lesson in recognizing that it’s okay to collaborate at work and leave it all at that.
But getting back to the list above. Take a look and see what’s important to you. Forget about the rankings if you can and think about the skills that help you move ahead in your career and ones that make your job interesting.

The following are the things which you need in order for you to get started: copyright license, e-commerce web site, internet, computer and comprehension about the Copyright Distribution Laws.
Setting up an Online Music Store
The very first thing you need to do is to get a license for music-redistribution. It is in the governmental copyright website where you can find several kinds of licenses for options for music redistribution. In the provided list, you will see lots of licensing options of different types. You can use this for the redistribution sales.
Of course, you also need a name for your online music store but you must be very careful not to choose a name that has already been taken. In order for you to register for your business name, you just have to click on the link of the Business Name Registration. After the loading of the site, you need to follow directions in order for you to legalize and establish the name of your business. Are you interested to know more about starting a Korean grocery store? Some questions might sprout in your mind, like:

Who will supply me with products?
Are these products really Korean?
Will there be enough Korean in the community to buy my products?
Are Korean products safe?

These questions might pop into your mind the very moment you think about of setting up a Korean grocery store. Other than these, you also have to put into your mind some important things that will help you start a Korean grocery store.
Tips to start a Korean Grocery Store

Identify how many clients you have. If you live in a Korean village or there are a lot of Koreans permanently living in town, then, you can set up a Korean grocery store. However, you might just back off when there’s not enough Koreans around to buy your goods.
Have enough capital. Estimate how much money you need to start the business. Sometimes, it all depends upon the products that you will sell. Likewise, you also have to expect extra charge from customs and importing. That, you need to figure out.
Befriend Koreans. Only by knowing and having some Korean friends you will know what their needs are. In that way, you can figure out what to sell to them. Participate in their community events, meetings, and gatherings and get to know their culture. You may also use the opportunity to distribute business cards to advertise your store.
Use the power of word. A word of mouth, when steadily used, can be more powerful than any paid advertisement. If you plan to start a Korean grocery store, then you have to offer the best Korean products that your Korean clients will love. If they like the products that you sell, tendency is, you will have a steady flow of customers coming into your doorsteps.
Keep the chains from growing. If keep building good relationship with your clients, then, if you can win their hearts, and eventually others will follow them. And if you have any unique products for them, others will surely come to your store to take a look, at best, even buy them.

How to Run Coffee Shop
4 s10,247 views

Running a coffee shop will be a lot easier if you have all the right equipment and the knowledge of its mechanics. In addition to this, several coffee shop owners have attested that it is the interior design as well as the surrounding that contribute to a coffee shop’s success.

These owners emphasized that the interior designs must not only be good but excellent, that the surroundings must not only be attractive but also comfortable. There are people who are willing and more than prepared to pay more than what their coffees originally cost. These people are your target customers and you must attract them in any kind of way you can. You can start by properly running your coffee shop.

Seek The Help Of Professional Designer
Since the appearance of your coffee shop is one big factor on making your shop a hit to your customers, hiring a professional designer is never a waste of money. These designers are sometimes called shop fitters. Unless you are a graduate of interior design or you have undergone the same training, it is very important to seek the help of professional designers when grooming your coffee shop. This is because even the greatest coffee shop owners still sought for their help, so you might as well do the same. Let them do the planning of the interior design as well as the layout and you do the running of your coffee shop. This way, you will be more focused on developing effective ways on how to run your shop.

Space Is Important
If you are about to run a coffee shop, you have to take into consideration the space that you are going to place the shop. It must be big enough for 60 seats, any lesser than that and you might be bankrupt. You also have to consider the sizes of the table, more specifically on the number that it will be able to hold. It is ideal for you to purchase small tables meant for two people at first. The shape of your table must also be addressed. It must be practical that when there you have a group of customers, you can easily put the tables together in order to accommodate them. However, most often than not, most of your customers will come in pairs so it is advisable for you to buy tables for two. Never waste space, one example of wasting it is to have two people sit with a table meant for four.

Other Things To Consider
Consider also having an external area where people can smoke freely. When it comes to hiring your staff, do it on two stages. The first stage is for you to select those who are capable of supervising. The second stage is to ask for your already hired supervisors to assist you with interviewing the floor candidates of your coffee shop.
