It yields a lot of insights that aids in your formulation of a strategy that will put you in a much more competitive position against your competitors. What is SWOT?
SWOT is an abbreviation for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. It is a tool for assessing the position of a business to its environment. It is a factual analysis due to the reason that it is extensive in its data collection and analysis of the data that is extensively collected. The question that needs to be answered next is how to use SWOT in the formulation of a viable business strategy. Assuming that the needed data for the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats have been collected and already in your possession. Utilizing them is easy with the aid of some of the tips listed below.
What to Do?
The first thing to do is evaluate the surroundings. What is the current status of your environment? How will this affect the success of your business? What are the plans you have in order to cope or adjust to the conditions of the environment? These are just some of the things that need to be answered when evaluating your surroundings. The next step is identifying of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. This will be a vital step for this will make it finally known to you your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. This will set a background for your formulation of your strategy in order to ensure that your company is in a competitive position against the competition.
Pair two of the SWOT factors to formulate your strategies. This may be first employed in categories divided into four, Strengths and opportunities strategy, strengths and threats strategy, weaknesses and opportunities strategy, weaknesses and threats strategy. Then after this you can do the same with strengths and weaknesses strategies, weaknesses and opportunities strategies and weaknesses and threats strategies. After pairing the two SWOT factors you should already have strategic options. That will be the next step. Evaluation of the strategic options is the next step towards strategy formulation by the use of the SWOT analysis tool. Do a quick assessment of the options you have, weigh the effectiveness of each towards the attainment of the goals of you company or business.
The last step is selection of a strategic option. This is due to the fact that too many strategic options that exist will not be viable. This will only create confusion and it will also be very impractical. Thus there arises a need to shorten the long list of strategic options. Limit the options to at least three. This will still give you choices but it will no longer cause confusion. After completion of the steps given above, you will now have strategies ready for application to the business you have.
